$400 + $50 Omaha H/L 8B
Two of the most successful Borgata Omaha players in history squared off at the final table and in the end it was Glen Engelbert (Erial, NJ) who won his third Borgata trophy, denying Chris Reslock (Atlantic City, NJ) his fourth.
Engelbert steam rolled the final table and defeated Robert Renner (Langhorn, PA) heads up to take the title and the $12,337 first prize.
"It feels good," said Engelbert, "I finally beat Chris, that's the big story."
Reslock went out in fourth place after bluffing off all but 2k of his stack in a 700k chip pot.
"He's always the one you worry about," said Engelbert who won two Borgata trophies in 2011. "We've played together for years and he's always had my number."
On the final hand of the tournament, Engelbert flopped the wheel to knockout Renner in second place.
"It could have been worse," said Renner, who was down to 8k at the final table. "I came from less than a big blind to second place. It's hard to be disappointed with that."
Renner lost the big hand to Gabriel Ramos (Durham, NC), who finished 5th, while Jared Hamburger (Beacon, NY) came in third place.
The two-day event began with 106 entries and broke the money bubble late on Day 1. The final 16 returned for the finale with Engelbert starting the day 3rd in chips behind Renner and chip leader Kevin Kenkelen (Delanco, NJ), who bubbled the final table in 11th place.
Engelbert, a recycling coordinator in Gloucester Township, never relinquished the chip lead at the final table and was lucky he survived Day 1. "I may not make dinner break," was the text he sent his wife Beverly when was down to 1,200. But a good run of cards got him to 52k by the break.
"I made some tough calls," said Engelbert on the key to his Day 2 success. "I didn't have strong hands, but fortunately they were bluffing."
Recognizable names who got their piece of the $42,400 total buy-in included Shawn Busse (10th), Frank Rasile (14th), Allen Chou (15th) and Neal Levine (16th).
Engelbert's three trophies have come in three different disciplines; Omaha H/L, H.O.S.E & Limit. The win denied Reslock, who has two PLO titles along with a H.O.R.S.E. win, from joining Will "The Thrill" Failla, as the only four-time Borgata trophy holders.
