Event 4 Recap

$500 + $60 Deep Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

After a back-and-forth heads-up battle that lasted more than two hours, Eric Rappaport came out on top, claiming his first Borgata Open trophy, $45,183, and a customized 16 x 20 framed photo with Borgata chip and event information plaque.

Vitor Coelho took 2nd place and $25,099.  He just missed claiming his second Borgata Open title.  (Coelho won the $1,500 NLH event during the 2009 Borgata Poker Open, good for $107,100.)  If he hadn't caught a 5-outer when all-in against eventual 3rd place finisher Jason Gardner, Coelho would have been out in 4th place.  Instead, he doubled up and 4th place went to Abraham Korotki, who already has three Borgata Open titles to his credit.

The lure of the Deep Stack brought out 345 entries, building total buy-ins of $172,500.   The final 36 players got paid.

Eighteen players survived 18 levels of play on day one and returned today for day two.  Seong Wook Hong was the chip leader coming into day two, but he couldn't hold on and busted out in 7th place.  The last woman sitting in this event was Serina Cheang (Alexandria, VA).  She finished 12th for $2,175.

Eric Rappaport used to be an online grinder, but has moved to brick-and-mortar since Black Friday, plus grinding online in Mexico.  He cashed in the WSOP Main Event this summer (407th place for $28,063) but this is his largest win on record.

He wasn't going to play this event, but decided to late-register.  He won a "big flip" early on, and never looked back.  He entered day two tied for third in chips, but had dropped to 8th out of ten when they went to the final table.  "It was a grind" he said.

About his heads-up opponent Vitor Coelho, Rappaport said "he showed no emotion, he played tough".  He also commented that the Borgata tournament "field sizes and prize pools are really great."  When asked what events he would play for the rest of the series, he replied "all of them".

Eric dedicated this win to his father.
