Championship: Day 4 Recap / Day 5 Preview

$3300 + $200 Championship Deep Stack Double Play NLH

Cong Pham, Chip Leader

Cong "Andy" Pham (Naples, FL) continues to lead the WPT Borgata Poker Open Championship Event chip counts, but one of the biggest names in poker, Vanessa Selbst (Las Vegas, NV) is second overall.  Day 4 play ended with six players in the running for the title and $825,099 first place prize.

"I definitely want my first WPT title," said Selbst who has two WSOP bracelets on her stellar resume. "I came close with a third place in 2011, so I'm excited for another chance and hopefully this time I get it done."

Pham leads with 10.2 million (102 bb), while Selbst is at 7.9 million.  Anthony Zinno is third overall with 6.9 million, followed by Jeremy Kottler (3.9 mill), David Randall (3.5 mill) and Eric Fields (3.2 mill).

"I'm very confident in my game right now," said Pham, who has managed the chip lead all tournament. "Hopefully I get some good cards and run good."  Not only did Pham go wire-to-wire by starting the day as the chip leader, but also picked up the $5,000 bonus as the Day 1A chip leader.

Play ended for the night with the elimination of one of the feel good stories, as local player Dan Howe (Brigantine, NJ) was knocked out in 7th place.  The returning six players will get their moment in the spotlight as they'll be part of the WPT's televised final table.

"This is huge," said Zinno, another Borgata regular. "This is my number one score already, even if I go out sixth. I couldn't be happier."  But Zinno's quick to point out that he's not done yet. "I have a good feeling, I think I'm going to win it."

The day began with 36 players who were already in the money, as the field quickly thinned to the final two tables.  Borgata regulars Matt Glantz (23rd), Leonardo Palermo (27th) and Ian Palomo (28th) made early exits as did Jake Schwartz (21st) who began the day second in chips.

Another local fan favorite, Alex Rocha (S. Setauket, NY) just missed the final table in 11th place, which set up a long grind to the final six.  It took 2 1/2 hours for Tyler Gaston to go out 10th, followed by Cliff Josephy (9th), Tatalovich (8th) and Howe, who's elimination came five hours after the final table began and more than 100 hands of play.

Play resumes at 3 pm Friday with blinds at 50k/100k/10k ante and the average stack at 5.9 million (59 big blinds).
