Event 11 - Balla Call

$350 + $50 Deepest Stack NLH (Re-Entry)

Blinds 3K/6K Antes 500

There are 140 players left with a 172K average stack.

At one table, Lee Childs opponent mucked his hand after they both checked the river. The dealer was not moving the cards into the muck, as they sat just in front of the player. "Dealer, please muck the cards," Childs asked nicely. The dealer made no motion to do so and Childs had to ask again. Finally, she mucked the hand, much to Childs relief as he showed his jack high and scooped the pot.

With just over 100K in the pot, Thomas Balla (Queens, NY) was facing an all in call of approximately 200K. Balla had his opponent covered by about 10K. The board read K225♣7. Balla asked for an exact count. "So it's less than what I have," he said. It was verified that he did have his opponent covered. Balla grabbed his chips and slid them into the middle. His opponent turned over A6. Balla casually flipped over AJ. The table let's out a collective ooohhhh of appreciation for the call. "I can't believe he called with Ace Jack," his opponent said, shaking his head, as he walked out of the tournament area. Balla has 2nd and 4th place finishes to his credit from previous Borgata Poker Open events and looks well on his way to another deep run.
