Never say never is a motto that holds true in poker... especially in No Limit Hold 'Em tournaments. Down by a 6:1 chip margin, Joe Boatwright used a little luck and some timely double ups to surge past Lee Childs to wrestle the chip lead away. From there, it was off to the races and the pocket 4's Boatwright held easily won when he flopped a full house. Boatwright battled for over 20 hours to take down this title, defeating an impressive field of 937 registrants to take down an astonishing $40,905 first place prize, a beautiful Borgata Poker Open trophy and a unique, custom framed photograph provided by IMPDI.
The 63 year old Boatwright has been playing poker all of his life but has taken it seriously the last decade of his distinguished life. A retired Army major, this is Boatwright's biggest live score to date. "I've won a lot of daily tournaments," Joe said, adding "I have a ton of hats to prove it. I won 30K once before but this is the most I've ever won in a tournament." When asked what he was going to do with the money, Joe gave a simple but blunt answer... "stick it in the bank." Now that's a nice bank deposit if I ever saw one.
Congratulations on your win Joe!
