Aleksander Sirota (Manalapan, NJ) was all-in from the small blind and actor James Woods (Beverly Hills, CA) was in the tank.

After James folded, Aleksander showed AQ suited.  "I had 52 of spades, swear to God" James said.  "I'm 37% against that hand."  Proving he's not just a pretty face, but knows his poker.

Aleksander final tabled event 8, the Deeper Stack NLH event, finishing 6th for $22,524, proving he's not just a pretty face, either.

Tim picked up a flush draw on the turn, but bricked the river and hit the rail.

Tim has three cashes in this series including two final tables.  He finished 2nd in event 2 for $31,579 and finished 3rd in the Seniors event for $7,902.

As the Borgata Poker Open $3,500 televised WPT Championship event drew closer, we began to see many of the well known pros from all over the country arrive. Both event 16 ($2,150 Heads Up Bounty) and event 17 ($1,090 6-Max) attracted some ridiculously tough fields with different formats and big buy-ins.

We saw past WPT players of the year, bracelet holders, and numerous former Borgata trophy winners take their shots at both prestigious titles. Both events drew a larger than normal rail, especially during the final table of the 6-Max, and we documented on film the action for those who couldn't be there:

There are four post-liminary events this week, starting at 11am each day, today through Friday.  These are main events, which mean the winner of each will receive a Borgata Poker Open trophy and customized 16 x 20 framed photo with Borgata chip and event information plaque, courtesy of Borgata and IMPDI professional photography.

So even if you're out of the Championship, you've still got four shots at making history at Borgata!

Championship: Day 1B Complete

Play has ended for the day. The end of day chip leader and winner of the $5,000 bonus is Paul Volpe with 231,800. Second in chips is Anthony Castelli from Brooklyn, New York who said he got into this event by taking 3rd place in a Borgata Poker Room tournament and winning $3,500. "I bought into this tournament with that money," an excite Anthony said. He also wanted to make sure everyone knew that "Mike Sexton is my hero." Now he's adding another $3,500 and will be looking to make even more if he can make it through this tough field and finish in the top 110. Jeremy Stein finished just short of the bonus money but is sitting pretty with 206,100.

The field will combine tomorrow for Day 2 and play will get underway at noon. Full seating assignments and chip counts will be posted on the blog in the morning.

Championship: Last level of the day

We are playing the last level of the night. Scott Seiver was recently moved directly to the right of Will Failla which makes for an entertaining table. In a recent hand, I caught up with the action with the board reading 6♦5♦2♦4♦. Seiver's opponent peeked at his cards prompting Scott to say "uh oh, diamond check". His opponent made a bet, Scott mulled it over for a second and made the call. The river was the 4♣ pairing the board. Seiver's opponent bet again, a smallish bet of approximately 3 K, again after looking back at his cards. Seiver said "Never the ace when they do the diamond check. I'm going to raise something he can't call" and raises 10K more. Seiver's opponent doesn't think long before making the call. Seiver turns over pocket 5's for a flopped set and a rivered full house. His opponent mucks and Failla says "guess he doesn't have the 3♦."

We are on dinner break. Players have until the end of dinner break (according to Tournament Director that is 8:25 pm) to enter or re-enter. So far there are a total of 788 registrations today bringing the total for the two days to 1,164. Maybe we'll get a late surge and top the 1,200 mark which would be impressive indeed. Regardless, the three million guarantee has been surpassed.

Ethan Foxman (Chevy Chase, MD) is among the chip leaders, if not the chip leader with 137K. Walking by a table, I heard a floor person ask a player "You want to surrender your chips?" "No... No..." the player said as he sat down. He had 120K in front of him. That would be a balla move to surrender that stack, but also a pretty stupid one.

One short stack tripled up with Q-8 against queens when he hit three eights. "Weeeeeeee," he exclaimed. He only has 16K though so still a lot of work to do.

I'm dating myself here but remember the days when you would play poker and actually talk to people in between hands or pay attention to what everyone else was doing? Ahhhh, those were the days. Now, 1/2 the table will either be texting, watching something on an iPad or even playing Candy Crush in between hands. It's not all about the cards people!

James Woods is back in action today and looking good so far. He's above 55K and stated that "I am the worst player at this table." Not sure if the rest of the table is buying it though. Mike Sexton recently took a decent sized pot when his A-K went up against pocket 7's. The flop came J-J-8 and the turn was the inevitable 8 to counterfeit the pocket 7's.

Midway through the level we find one stack that's more than 100k and it belongs to Lenard Adams (Chicago, IL) who is at 115k.

Adams says he got paid with quad Kings on a K-K-8-K-Q board against a player with pocket Queens in an 90k chip pot. "Is there a bonus for the end of night leader," asks Adams who sends a shout out to his brother Andre.

Another player jumps in and says, "double that and you have a shot."

The end of night chip leader gets $5,000, while second in chips takes home $3,500. The Day 1A chip leader was Cong Pham (Naples, FL) who bagged 191k.

Plenty of other stacks are in the 80k range including Keith Crowder (Elkins Park, PA), Perry Johnston (Oak Island, NC) and Anthony Zinno (Cranston, RI).

After a long stare down, Barsanti-Chou calls with both players holding, roughly, their starting stacks.

WPT Commentator and Poker Hall of Fame member Mike Sexton (Las Vegas, NV) has joined the field at one of the 'late registration' tables.  He's no slouch, either.  He's got more than $5.6 million in lifetime tournament earnings and a WSOP bracelet to his credit.

On the two occasions when Mike has been playing at the final table of a televised WPT event, he has had a guest commentator fill in for him in the WPT booth.

Even though he has 55k bagged and tagged from Day 1A, Lee Childs can't get enough poker and is playing in the Survivor Turbo as we waits for Tuesday's Day 2.  Currently 13 players remain with 9 prizes up for grabs.

1st-8th places earn $3,500, not coincidentally, the same price as entry into Day 1B of the Championship Event, while 9th place takes home $2216.

Matt Burnitz (Bear, DE) was runner-up in this event last year, losing to Ben Hamnett (Pittsburgh, PA).  Matt was unable to overcome the 2:1 chip deficit he faced when heads-up play began. 

It only took about 30 hands and it was over.  His last ~4 million went in pre-flop with JT suited and was trailing Ben's KQ.  A Queen on the board sent the pot to Ben. Matt  took second place and $488,850.

• Day 1 Levels: will last 75 minutes each
  Day 2+ Levels:  will last 90 minutes each
• Players that bust within the first 6 Levels may Re-Enter (unlimited re-entries) 
• 5-Day event with two starting days
• $5,000 will be awarded to the chipleader at the end of Day 1A and Day 1B;
  $3,500 will be awarded to the player finishing second behind the chipleader at the end of Day 1A and Day 1B

10AM: Event 50 - $350 + $50  Survivor Turbo No Limit Hold'em

• Players start with 15,000 in tournament chips 
• Levels will last 15 minutes each
• Approximately 1 in 10 will win $3,500 CASH
• 1-Day event

6 PM: Event 51 - $100 + $20 + $100 Black Chip Bounty NLH (Re-Entry)

• Players start with 15,000 in tournament chips 
• This is a Bounty tournament.  Players must have their Bounty chip clearly displayed on table in order to remain active in tournament.
• Levels will last 20 minutes each
• Players that bust within the first 6 Levels may Re-Enter (unlimited re-entries) 
• 1-Day event
